Q: How to enable automatic and software charging?
A: Automatic charging - No register setting is necessary. Plugging an AC charger with a battery connected will start charging. If charging doesnt start the please make sure that GPBR1 is set to 0x90. Due to some setting (sysboot or ROM code on OMAP) this register is over written to 0x00. This disables the MADC clocks and charging doesnt function. For OMAP info please get help from your local contact (FAE, community).
Software charging - For enabling SW charging -
BOOT_BCI = 0x30BCICTL1 = 0x1BBCIMKEY = 0X25
From what you write, and the documentation, automatic charging works only with AC chargers and not with USB chargers. Is that correct?
This is not correct.
The terms may be confusing in the case of USB. We still say it is USB automatic because the FSM controls the charging process.
In manual mode (i.e. not automatic) the user needs to start charging by setting the bits in BCIMDKEY register.
I hope this explains a little more and solves the confusion.

Gandhar.
