Hello,

We are developing a product using the TUSB3410.  We are using it with an EEPROM.  This product communicates to a host PC during a calibration process.  The software program used to communicate with the product is a VB.net app.  We have found that we need to always ensure the comm port is open before a commujnication and then close it afterwards.  If we simply try to leave the port open, it seems to close on its own and then a communication cannot take place.  I need to know if this is a issue with the TUSB3410 or with the operating system of the PC.  Also, it seems after many communications ( dozens), the communiations become intermittent and unreliable.  Reliable communications are restored if we reprogram the EEPROM used with the TUSB3410.  Any feedback on these matters will be greatly appreciated.

David,

That's is a pretty old VCP driver (1.2.11.8). That old driver is installed in two different categories at device manager (in "Ports" and also in "Multi-port Serial Adapter" ). We are no longer supporting that old driver anymore.

I recommend using our latest VCP driver (6.5.90xx.0). This new driver only installs itself under "Ports" category, it's being supported at this moment and it's available for XP/Vista.  Although, we are about to release a new driver for Win7 OS (6.5.9017.0). So I suggest to hang on until next week when the official driver can be shared in our website.

Please let me know you comments, or if you want to test the current available driver (6.5.9010.0) it can be downloaded from: http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders/print/tusbwinvcp.html

Best,

Ismael

Hello David,

Could you please let me know which VCP driver version are you using at your end? This because I've noticed some Open/Close port issues in some of our old VCP drivers.

Thanks,

Ismael

Ismael,

Good day.  If I look at the driver tab of the comm. port in the hardware manager, it says the version is 1.2.11.8.  Is this the information you needed?

 Thanks,

 Dave

Ismael,

Good morning.  The updated driver seems to be working much better.  Thank you very much.  Has the firmware that is stored in the EEPROM for the TUSB3410 been updated as well?

Thanks,

Dave

Ismael,

Good day.  Thank you very much for your help thus far.  Although teh communication performance has improved, we still some times have an intemittent failure.  We have not been able to pin it down to any one part of the software program that we are using to communicate to the TUSB3410.  Right now, to perform a communication, we are ensuring that the port is open, communicating, waiting a few seconds, then closing the port.  With the updated driver, would it be worthwhile to try just opening the port at the beginning of the program, communicating when necessary, then closing the port at the close of the program?  Could there still be an issue with the port seemingly closing on its' own during that time?

Thanks,

Dave

Dave,

We are about to release our latest VCP driver (this time it supports XP/Vista and Win7). This has some fixes regarding the open/close port feature and also it fixes some bugs seen when surprise removal (or suddenly closing a SW app who had VCP port opened) was asserted. Please hang on until it's updated at our website. It will be worth to test it...

Regards,

Ismael
