It works with CC31 SR1 so I'm sure it'll work with IAR, but I can't say for sure about GCC. It works with JTAG or SBW, but only on MSP430 series. I use a 1mm pitch 5 pin header on my board that gives me SBW and the choice of local or dongle power through a resistor fit/jumper. Dead easy. I like the price and ease of use. The SBW connection is different to the standard TI dongle, but no biggie. It was easier to get working than the TI dongle strangely enough. Olimex stuff is good, they have a reputation as a bunch of jerks though if you need support, can't say from personal experience if this is true; never dealt direct.

Re: Olimex MSP430 JTAG

It looks like the programmer is meant only for MSP430 devices.

I cannot comment on whether or not its better than the ez430-F2013 USB stick, but one of the key differences between the two is that the Olimex tool programs via Parallel programmer (and cannot program via Spy-bi-wire), but the ez430 tool programs via USB and ONLY program via Spy-bi-wire.

TI also has a similar Parallel programming tool:
http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders/print/msp-fet430pif.html

For specific information, you may want to contact Olimex.

Olimex MSP430 JTAG

Can I program any other MCUs with it or only MSP430 ??

Is it better than the ez430-2013 programing/debugging stick ?? / Why
